This spring, arrangers of the World Ski Championships and ITSdalarna together made a letter of intent regarding collaboration to handle and manage the needs of transportation during the championships. By producing an efficient transporation solution, with climate awareness, the businesses in our region would get a new product to export worldwide.
At a workshop on sept 13th, the members of ITSdalarna showed their will to engage in working towards world-class climate friendly transportation solutions for the World Ski Championships.
More than a championship – Beyond Skiing
A successful championship in Falun will go beyond just properly arranged competitions and surrounding events. It will also affect the local business in a positive way, increase tourism and attract new inhabitants. That is what the project ”Beyond Skiing 2015” aims for. Beyond Skiing was founded to promote and support Falun's candidature, and now continues to work om business development, culture, entertainment, youth projects and debate.
All of the participating memberts at the ITSdalarna workshop found collaboration with Beyond Skiing as an interesting way to find innovative logistics and transportation solutions. ITSdalarna should function as coordinator in this project, while the members work with tangible solutions.
A paperless championship?
During the workshop, many ideas on solving transportations during the championship were aired. Common for all ideas were an environmental friendly approach.
Some of the ideas:
– Sustainability should be a concept for the entire championships. Why not make this the first paper-less championship ever?
– Develop an app to care for the entire event for visitors - from the trip to Falun, on to accomodation, tickets and so on.
– Discounts to travellers who choose climate-friendly alternatives, like the train.
– Need for solutions that goes across the borders of different kinds of transportation..
– The logistics is not only about Falun and its immediate surroundings, but also about guiding travellers frome Arlanda and Stockholm.
– An important task will be to direct alpine tourists to alternative routes during the championships, to reduce pressure on Falun's transportation system.
– Solutions can be tested and evaluated during other big events in our region, for instance Vasaloppet and Peace & Love festival.
Let's rock!
Annica Roos, CEO of ITSdalarna, finished the workshop by stating that work now must begin as soon as possible.
– If we want something to happen, we have to capture this opportunity now, immediately.
Directly after the workshop, the board of ITSdalarna and Beyond Skiing begun discussing cooperation forms.
